Hi Guys! As promised, I have made a site that allows me to share all the pictures that I take on this trip with you. I will continue to post some "featured photos" on the blog, but all the pictures that I took in Prague can be found at this link (click on the word link). Soon I will go out and take pictures around Brno to try to get you familiar with the city. It's a lot like Prague, just on a smaller scale. Although my host, Erik, tells me that Prague and Brno kind of have the New York versus LA thing going on, but I haven't noticed that yet.
It is amazing how little English the people in Brno speak compared to those in Prague. I assume that's because Prague is more of a tourist city, so it's necessary. But here in Brno, all the menus are only in Czech and the servers don't even know what "thank you" means. Therefore, I have had Erik order all of my meals so far since it's pointless for me to even open a menu.
My first day here in Brno, I was able to observe one of the classes that I will be working with. So I got to know the kids and see how the class was run. I think it will be a little challenging because I speak no Czech, but the kids are surprisingly good at English considering their age (average age is about 6). Since then I have been trying to adjust to the culture shock and being so far away from home. I'm getting more used to it as time progresses. This morning we took a walk around downtown and went on a 45km bike ride. And I now know more than ever that I'm VERY out of shape. Everyone here loves exercising. They walk everywhere! Since I got to Brno, I haven't been a car once. I think soon I will make a list of all the differences I have noticed so far just to see how many I can come up with :)
Well that's all for now! Enjoy the pictures and I'll try to update again soon :)
Great pics, Amanda! I'm so glad you are getting adjusted and have Erik to show you the ropes! I especially like your pics of your food plates. I bet their food is delicious!Keep us posted! Love you!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the language barrier Amanda. I've heard of visitors eating the same thing all the time because they couldn't read a menu well enough to order anything else. I'm sure you will pick up their language well enough, soon enough.
ReplyDeleteYour pics show that you have chosen a beautiful location.
