A Sample of Brno

As promised, I thought I would show everyone a few pictures that I have taken so far of Brno, just to give you a little sample of the city. After living in New Philadelphia, Columbus, and now Brno, I have realized that all cities are basically the same no matter what the size. Yes, it's nice to have more options in a bigger city, but when it comes down to it you always end up going to the same places anyways. The obvious pro about New Philadelphia is my parents and about Columbus is the Buckeyes and a pro about Brno is it has all the history of a European city. Here it seems that there is no end to the historical sites I could see within 50 miles of the city. But for today, I will just show you the normal city life of Brno.

Right around the corner from my house. The Buildings on the left are mostly apartments, but here are a couple shops and restaurants too. The building on the right is part of the university.

University Building

What I see looking down my street. It's very European and very cool. The only bad part is the trams/trolleys are really loud!

The country's justice building. Like their version of the Supreme Court. Again, only about 250 yards from the school.

"The Center": Much like a city square. There's always something going on there. Last weekend (this picture) was a beer festival. So I got to try beers from all over the Czech Republic. This weekend it's some kind of taste of Brno type of thing.

The clock in the center. Yes, it's a clock. It will be easier if I let this site explain it (http://brnonow.com/2010/09/brno-cock-clock/) WARNING, not appropriate for small children :) It was also said that during the unveiling of the clock the designer was ask to tell the time and he looked at his watch instead of attempting to use the clock.

The Center at night.

The impromptu memorial that was used to honor the hockey players that died in the Russian plane crash. By the way, most of the Czech Republic blames Russia for the crash.

Fireworks over the castle. This picture was taken from the apartment window!

Again, this is looking down the street from my apartment.

The entrance to the park that surrounds the castle in Brno.

All these pictures are pretty cool because all of this stuff can be found within a mile of where I live. It's really nice to have everything so close. That's all for now. Have a good weekend everyone and GO BUCKS!
